Who does what

PM, Cabinet, Opposition & the Speaker

The Prime Minister leads the government. Ministers each run an area (a “portfolio”) like health or education, and together they form Cabinet.

The Opposition

The parties not in government make up the Opposition. They challenge the government and offer alternatives, with “shadow” spokespeople.

The Speaker & backbenchers
