Juries (Age of Excusal) Amendment Bill
Right now, New Zealanders aged 65 or over can ask to be let off jury duty, and the court must say yes. This bill raises that age from 65 to 72. That means people aged 65 to 71 would no longer have an automatic right to skip jury duty — they could still be required to serve unless they have another reason to be excused. People who already received a jury summons before the new law starts would still be covered by the old rules.
