ACT would let resident visa holders convicted of offences carrying 10-year sentences be deported however long they have lived here, make skilled work visa categories expire every year unless demand is proved again, bar new residents from income-tested benefits for five years, and add a $6-a-day infrastructure surcharge to temporary work visas. English requirements would extend to all work visa levels, and a dedicated overstayer enforcement unit would be set up inside Immigration New Zealand.
